An emblematic fabric of nobility and royalty since the Renaissance, popularised during the Industrial Revolution and particularly appreciated by gentleman farmers, corduroy is making a strong comeback. And looks set to stay.
Why such enthusiasm? First, because the vintage spirit perfectly matches our desire to return to more authentic things, to iconic pieces that have stood the test of time. But above all, whether fine-wale or wide-wale, corduroy has that particularly rich look, ideal for adding texture to an outfit while remaining easy to pair.
It’s simple: if you are looking for a piece that can give your usual outfits a twist, is easy to live with and care for, and opens up new styling possibilities, corduroy is for you!
With great corduroy enthusiasts on our team, all keen to launch a small corduroy collection, we began taking a closer interest in this fabric. As comforting as your duvet when it is cold, its distinctive weave also makes it very hard-wearing and naturally resistant. Now widely made from cotton fibres, corduroy is also very easy to care for and barely creases, remaining relatively supple whatever its weight. A true winter essential, isn’t it?
A winter capsule of classic, timeless corduroy pieces, easy to wear and easy to pair without taking risks
The corduroy project was under way! The idea was to create a winter capsule of classic, timeless corduroy pieces, easy to wear and easy to pair without taking risks with formal and casual outfits, while of course remaining relevant whatever the era.
Two jackets, two pairs of trousers and a corduroy shirt: everything you need to ease into winter. Fine-wale corduroy and 300-wale corduroy: the right corduroy for every piece. Shall we introduce them?
The jackets. Finding the perfect fabric was no easy task. We therefore carried out numerous tests before settling on the wale and weight that seemed the most balanced in terms of style: our corduroy had to stand out subtly, both original and understated.
We found a French workshop founded in 1828 that has made corduroy its speciality. All fabrics are produced in the Vosges, using specific finishing techniques and ancestral processes. When you want both choice and quality while supporting French heritage, there is no hesitation.
Let’s keep it simple: we chose 300-wale corduroy, the symbol of dad’s trousers. Generous, popular, authentic: a fabric that works wonderfully with the cut of our work jacket, making it one of the season’s key pieces.
The cut, precisely: it is the same as for our summer work jackets. Straight, enhancing the drape of the fabric, easy to slip on and roomy enough to feel comfortable with a shirt and/or a wool jumper underneath. Thanks to their rather unique fabric, our corduroy jackets are perfect for playing with textures in layering. To understand the principle of layering and how to get started, we recommend our article on the subject.
Two jackets, two worlds. Our camel jacket has a real sense of adventure. A bright colour that works perfectly with a navy jumper, beige chinos or jeans, for an American touch. Horn-effect buttons blend in subtly to create an authentic look. The midnight blue version belongs to an entirely different register, more urban and refined. By contrast, it works particularly well with autumnal colours such as brown, beige, mustard and forest green. The detail that makes all the difference? Our contrasting corozo buttons bring out the depth and intensity of the blue in our fabric.
The trousers. Choosing the corduroy for our trousers was quicker, as we had a very clear vision for them. While some members of the team appreciate the “preppy grandad” feel of wide-wale trousers, we wanted trousers for everyday wear: modern and easy to pair without taking risks. A true alternative to jeans and chinos.
For the fabric, we were fortunate to meet a renowned Italian mill that offered us exactly what we were looking for: fine-wale corduroy with beautiful highlights, in perfect colours—blue and camel—with a touch of elastane for greater freedom of movement.
The cut is the same as for our chinos. Classic, fitted just enough to flatter your legs. Following your feedback, we decided to slightly increase the overall length of these trousers. Those of you who are taller should finally find what you are looking for. For more details, see the size guide.
The shirt. The one and only: our midnight blue corduroy shirt is also making its grand return this season. Made from corduroy by Albini, our long-standing partner, it is the kind of piece you take everywhere the weather turns cold.
For the rest, you know the drill: our usual relaxed fit to keep you comfortable, an American collar (or button-down) that stands up to anything. The ideal piece for making corduroy your own.
