Le jean selvedge selon Hast

Selvedge jeans according to Hast

2 min read

At Hast, we have always had a weakness for fine fabrics—the kind that tell a story before they are even worn.

With our two new pairs of jeans, we are taking a new step in our pursuit of a lasting, desirable, and impeccably crafted wardrobe. Two closely related pieces, each with its own character, yet driven by the same standard: crafting truly high-end denim, without hollow promises, relying purely on craftsmanship.

An exceptional denim, designed to stand the test of time

Woven on 1960s shuttle looms, our two pairs of jeans revive the tradition of heritage denim. This slow, precise, almost hypnotic weaving process gives rise to the famous red selvedge ID—a discreet yet unmistakable mark of quality.

An Italian fabric with strong character

Both crafted in Portugal, these jeans develop a unique patina with wear, moulding naturally to your silhouette over time.

The straight-leg selvedge jeans in Italian organic cotton and 15 ¼ oz Candiani raw denim stand out with a crisp red selvedge line, the hallmark of exceptional fabrics crafted to endure. The straight-leg blue jeans in Italian cotton and 13 oz Candiani fabric, meanwhile, feature custom buttons and a subtle stonewashed effect—a tribute to seventies denim.

A natural and responsible fabric

Both woven from certified organic cotton or rigid cotton, they are dyed using natural, environmentally friendly processes that are biodegradable and mindful of water and energy consumption. In both cases, we remain true to our philosophy: working with natural materials, favouring clean processes, avoiding synthetic compounds, and honouring true craftsmanship.

Uncompromising structure, effortless ease

Neither pair of jeans contains any stretch fibre. Their initial stiffness is a mark of quality, not a flaw: much like fine leather, the fabric softens and moulds to you over time. Already pre-washed in the workshop, they will not shrink in the wash. Before their very first cycle, we simply suggest avoiding lighter pairings: in its early days, denim is still a little too eager to share its colour.

Pieces designed for everyday life

We opted for a regular fit, modernised just right. Neither too slim nor too loose: just enough structure for the silhouette, without ever compromising on comfort. These are jeans you wear as much for their looks as for the way they hang.

Two interpretations of the same craftsmanship

The straight-leg selvedge jeans in Italian organic cotton captivate with their intense blue-black shade, achieved through natural EARTHCOLOR® technology, their dense hand, and their timeless elegance. The straight-leg blue jeans in Italian cotton play a different tune: a medium-dark “Sioux” indigo colour, a more pronounced texture, and an instantly assertive personality.
Two shades, two characters, one single ambition: to bring to the Hast wardrobe a denim worthy of the rest of our pieces, built to stand the test of time and style.

Selvedge, naturally taking centre stage

More than an aesthetic detail, selvedge is the tangible expression of time-honoured expertise. It guarantees a dense, cleanly finished, durable fabric ready to accompany your daily life for years to come. It is also the proof of a rare, preserved art that we were keen to showcase.

Jeans built to last

In creating these two pairs of jeans, we wanted a garment capable of getting better with age, not wearing out. A living fabric, exceptional weaving, a precise cut, and a commitment to durability: everything comes together to make them a staple of the menswear wardrobe, the kind you reach for effortlessly and keep for years.
