Regulars at the Maison are aware: noble fibers and exceptional materials have been at the heart of the HAST wardrobe for over 10 years.
With Libeco linen, we are once again affirming this ambition and putting at your disposal one of the oldest European skills; and undoubtedly one of the most beautiful.
Libeco, an institution on the Old Continent
Founded in 1858, the Belgian company Libeco is an international reference that has been working with linen with the same passion for over 160 years.
Based in the heart of the " linen region " , this geographical area of northern Europe which extends from Normandy to the Netherlands via Flanders, it supplies prestigious fabrics renowned throughout the world.
Capitalizing on centuries-old expertise and an ideal geographical location, Libeco has elevated linen weaving to the status of an art over the decades. Heir to a unique expertise where tradition and innovation coexist, this European institution is the pride of an entire continent. Moreover, several labels attest to this virtuosity:
Belgian Linen™. Six weavers worldwide can boast this label, which guarantees quality, traceability, and authenticity. Libeco is one of them.
Masters of Linen®. This certification validates a transparent manufacturing process and authenticates fabrics made entirely in Europe.
Licensed Supplier to the Belgian Court. As its name suggests, Libeco is also an official supplier to the Belgian Royal Family, an elite certification that recognizes the finest craftsmanship across the country.
As you can imagine, it is an honor for Hast to collaborate with such an luminary, and a privilege to offer you fabrics of such renown.
Linen, a naturally exceptional fiber
A plant fiber with 1001 virtues, linen has been used for thousands of years in the textile industry. In the late 2000s, a team of American and Georgian paleontologists discovered fragments of 36,000-year-old textile linen in a Georgian cave, eloquently illustrating the love affair between humans and this unique material.
We love linen so much because it possesses absolutely unique, 100% natural properties. Among its virtues, here are those that particularly distinguish it:
It is thermoregulating and insulating. Thanks to its hollow fibers and high breathability, linen has the ability to retain heat when it's cool and release it when it's hot. It's this ability that has crowned it the "queen of summer fabrics," even though it proves just as effective in winter.
It's absorbent. With its low water consumption, linen fiber can absorb up to 20% of its weight in liquid without feeling damp. When it's used on clothing, it dries quickly, significantly reducing the appearance of those dreaded stains. A great companion for staying dry all summer.
It is self-cleaning. Thanks to the structure of its fibers, linen prevents dust mites and bacteria from attaching to it. The same is true of dust, allowing it to stay clean and crisp for longer.
It is particularly durable. With its dry, rustic appearance, linen is also distinguished by its exceptional strength. It is resistant to heat and cold, does not pill, does not stretch when exposed to moisture, is virtually indecipherable, very easy to care for, and softens with each wash, making it a truly durable material.
It is hypoallergenic. Like wool, linen is hypoallergenic. If you have sensitive skin (prone to tingling, itching, redness, and other signs of hyperreactivity), this delicate fiber is ideal.
Responsibility at the heart
Since 2012, we have placed honesty and sincerity at the heart of our wardrobe. With complete transparency, we sign our production processes to offer you environmentally friendly pieces, entirely developed from natural and/or recycled materials .
Among these natural raw materials, flax holds a special place since it is unanimously considered the most ecological fiber in the world . Not only does its cultivation require little water and inputs, but the different stages of its processing (uprooting, retting, scutching, combing) are energy-efficient. Add to this the fact that the flax plant absorbs 3.7 T/HA of CO2 during its growth, that it is fully recyclable, that it produces no waste and that it is 100% biodegradable, and you get the most responsible fiber there is.
At Libeco, this responsibility reaches new heights, as the company has been committed to sustainable and responsible development for many years. Local production, decarbonization, certifications, zero-waste production, construction of low-energy buildings, installation of solar panels: the list is long, and we invite you to read about it here .
Ultimately, Libeco linen combines exceptional quality, incomparable eco-responsibility and great environmental awareness ; a triptych which obviously contributes to the global reputation of this establishment.
Hast x Libeco, like a no-brainer
As passionate individuals, collaborating with an institution like Libeco is a no-brainer. Sharing values and vision, we've combined our expertise to offer you five exceptional pieces as part of our Spring/Summer 2025 collection .
Seduced by the ethical commitment of the House, captivated by the quality of its fabrics, moved by the history of a preserved craftsmanship, we wanted to offer you the finest in know-how through the following creations:
-
Libeco linen suits. Available in beige and emerald green, this two-piece suit is crafted from fabulous 295g/m² Libeco linen. Densely woven to ensure a beautiful drape, this suit is nonetheless cool and breathable thanks to the linen properties described earlier.
Up top, you can count on a jacket with a pronounced waist accent : semi-canvassed construction, 8.5 cm notched lapels, slightly structured shoulders, a pair of slits on the back and a fitted cut.
On the trouser side, the sartorial influences are also felt , particularly on the side button placket at the waistband. The two pairs of pleats abound in this sense, as does the long leg pleat which brings elegance and verticality to the whole.
In fact, these suits will accompany you throughout the summer, from the most solemn ceremonies to more casual occasions. What's more, you can mix and match them to expand the range of possibilities, wearing your linen trousers with a t-shirt , a linen shirt or a polo shirt ; or your jacket with jeans , shorts or chinos .
The Libeco linen work jacket. Cut from the same fabric as our suits , the Libeco linen work jacket takes up the traditional codes of tricolor workwear from the 50s. In particular, it is a painter's jacket that inspired the line of this one, with its generous signet collar, its straight cut and its two patch pockets. An iconic design, a jade-colored fabric with a dry and nervous hand, the characteristic performance of linen fiber: you are in beautiful sheets.
The final word
Industry-wide, approximately 70% of the raw materials used in clothing manufacturing are chemical in origin. This terrifying figure continues to rise, thanks in part to the fast and ultra-fast fashion industries. Under these circumstances, offering a wardrobe made from natural fibers is no small feat and is, in itself, a declaration of faith.
By selecting Libeco linen to dress certain pieces from our spring-summer 2025 collection, we are renewing this commitment and making available to you one of the most beautiful fabrics ever worked at Hast.
Natural, eco-friendly, local, sustainable, robust, comfortable, breathable, and full of character, linen ticks all the boxes; and the linen Libeco has woven for us combines performance and responsibility like no other. A unique blend of awareness and expertise, combined to serve a centuries-old craft.
A marvel to discover urgently in our boutiques and on Hastparis.com
