How to choose the right sunglasses?

Read time 2

The sun is finally back and we enjoy enjoying outdoor pétanque games and long aperitifs with friends. Among the essential summer accessories, between shorts, t-shirts and patterned swimsuits, there are obviously sunglasses. Final and essential touch to a successful summer look, you still have to choose them carefully. A short guide to help you in your quest for the ideal glasses that will enhance your pretty face in the blink of an eye.

Tip number 1: Choose a frame that suits your face

Choosing the right glasses is a more complicated exercise than it seems. Before thinking about the style you want or the color, you should choose a pair that suits the shape of your face. A bit like certain clothes that are preferred depending on your body type, the frame of a glasses must harmonize with your features. Round, rectangular, butterfly, there are many frames.

Generally speaking, if we can give you one piece of advice, it is to prefer a shape that slightly contrasts with your face. An angular frame for a round face and vice versa. The goal is to create balance. We recommend choosing frames that are rather thick rather than too thin, which will give you extra style. For color, we advise you to go for safe values: black, brown or scales. The only exception to this rule is if you already own a classic pair, you can then opt for a more original pair as a second choice.

Tip number 2: Focus on an effective protection index

Beyond style, a good pair of sunglasses is above all one that provides you with optimal protection. The glasses have a functional appearance and must effectively protect you from UV rays. Despite appearances, dark glass does not equal protection. The tinting of lenses has nothing to do with their ability to filter out bad rays. There are 4 categories of protection: from 0 to 4. Category 3 is best suited to summer light and provides protection, even under the blazing sun.

Tip number 3: Match your glasses to your style

Whether you are a fan of formal style, or prefer a more urban wardrobe, it is important to match your glasses to your wardrobe. For easy wear, choose a classic, “goes everywhere” model, in black for example, which will go just as well with a white shirt as a khaki jacket in a workwear spirit. If you want a touch of originality, you may prefer an acetate frame, or a frame that mixes materials. It is also recommended to choose the color of your glasses, in a shade quite similar to that of your hair and eyes, for perfect harmony.

Tip number 4: Choose Made In France

The choice of glasses can also be a responsible act by choosing Made In France. Our three models of the season are made in France, in Oyonnax, the historic cradle of French eyewear. Heirs of unique know-how, our artisans are keen to defend local and respectful production. In the interest of quality, all the rivets on Hast glasses are mounted in an artisanal manner, by hand. To encourage circularity, our workshop recycles all unused material. It has the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label: a label which “distinguishes French companies with excellent artisanal and industrial know-how”.
