When creating Hast, we had a simple vision: to offer high-quality products, with fine fabrics and a meticulous eye for finishings, applying lower margins than the current market simply by bypassing distributors.
A business model that was relatively undeveloped when we started in 2012, which is now seeing
growing success. And all the better, because more and more of us want to (and can) make a difference.
Beyond offering good value for money, we had ecological and ethical questions in mind regarding the making of our shirts. Made in France was incompatible with prices accessible to as many people as possible, but we were keen to stay as "local" as possible, wishing to minimise transport-related pollution.
To ensure respect for people in the manufacturing of our shirts, we chose to work with a workshop located in north-eastern Europe, in the Baltic States, or further south, in Portugal. We regularly visit our partners to check the quality of our shirts as well as working conditions. The fabrics come from Italy, Portugal, or Japan (the exception that proves the rule, but we cannot turn away from remarkable Japanese craftsmanship)!
The same craftsmanship applies to our accessories: our ties and bow ties are crafted in one of the finest specialised workshops on the shores of Lake Como, in Italy. Our upcycled boxers are made in Portugal, and our vegetable-tanned belts are assembled in the workshops of a French company certified as an "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant", located in northern Spain.
For nearly six years, we have worked closely with passionate partners, keeping our costs under control to offer you durable yet always accessible pieces.
It was a bold wager, and we took it up.
